Rig VS Rigless wellhead Operations
For a wellhead engineer the main difference between a rig or rigless operations is whether a drilling or workover rig is present to perform the well intervention.
Rig operations:
We use a drilling rig or workover rig to provide the equipment lifting capacity and intervention capacity needed for the job.

Rigless operations:
We perform well intervention using specialized equipment such as safe loaders, hydraulic intervention systems or wellhead pressure-control equipment.
Both approaches involve pressure containment, well barriers, valves, xmas trees, tubing hangers, BPVS and surface-control equipment, although the work scope and risk controls differ.
Rigless may be appropriate when the job can be completed with a qualified intervention approach, the well can be maintained and the equipment can safely perform the required task.
A rig or specialized heavy intervention system may be required when tubing must be pulled, parker unsit, the completion must be substantially changed. Significant lifting or downhole manipulation is required here, the planned task exceeds the capabilities of the available rigless hydraulic equipment.
Lastly, rig operations can run 24 hours safely, but for rigless operations especially in high pressure volatile communities, if u test, you’ll see that the lord is good.
